This Sunday is a big day for the female cycling community in Victoria with "The Women’s Ride" running again.
The Women's Ride is a single day celebration of women’s riding. Unlike other organised rides, the Women’s Ride is not focused around a single ride or single event. It incorporates a variety of riding events from around Victoria. These include recreational group riding, casual social rides as well as different disciplines of racing.
The best part of the day is that its all about you! You can take part in any ride listed on the website. All of the rides that make up The Women’s Ride are generated by communities of women who love to ride. It’s one day in the year when we all come together to celebrate what it means to be women on bikes.
So to help you get on your bike, we have listed some of our favourite rides happening this Sunday.
SKCC Ascent Women's Ride
Lakeside Drive, Saint Kilda, Victoria, Australia
Start time: 6:45am
St Kilda Cycling Club (SKCC) are proud to continue their support of The Women’s Ride and the 2016 edition coincides with the SKCC/Geelong Cycling Club Grand Prix Victorian Criterium Championships. Our ride will start with a lap of Lakeside Drive prior to the start of the day’s cycling racing and allowing us to take full advantage of Lakeside Drive which will be closed to traffic. From Albert Park, our route will take us through the Docklands onto Melbourne Zoo before heading back towards Albert Park via Rathdowne St and through Melbourne CBD. Much of the 33kilometres will be on bike paths and will finish back at Lakeside Drive where coffee awaits along with some world class racing. If you haven’t had the opportunity to attend a cycling race, this event promises to be spectacular!

Ella CyclingTips: experience the hidden side of Mt Donna Buang
42 Station Road, Warburton, Victoria, Australia
Start time: 9:30am
Join Ella CyclingTips for a spectacular ride on the quiet back roads that wind up to the 1245 metre high peak of Mt Donna Buang. The 57 kilometre ride has over a thousand metres of climbing, with the added challenge of patches of dirt.
The no drop ride starts at the Cog Bike Café in Warburton, rolling out on the gentle gradients of a rail trail to warm up the legs. At about 12 kilometres the uphill and dirt sections begin. It’s a good thing the views are spectacular because with 25km of climbing, we may need the occasional distraction. Once we get through the dirt we head onto the main road to finish the last stretch to the top of Mt Donna Buang. Then it’s down the sealed road to Warburton to round out the ride with coffee and a chat.
You don’t need a special bike, the ride can be done on a road bike with 23mm or 25mm tyres in good condition. We will send out an email with more details and some tips in the week before the ride.
0409 856 080
101 Burgundy St, Heidelberg VIC 3084, Australia
Start time: 7:00am
Join us on a hilly adventure through Melbourne’s east. We’ll start at Peak Cycles in Heidelberg before venturing through through the rolling hills of Diamond Creek, Nutfield, St Andrews and Kangaroo Ground. Morning tea will be in Eltham before we make our way back to Heidelberg.
The ride is approx. 75km and includes 1,300m climbing.
Please note: this is a challenging route and we’ll be travelling at a steady pace. In order to keep the bunch together and ensure everyone enjoys the ride, you need to have completed a 75km+ hilly ride at 23-25km/h+ previously. If in doubt, please get in touch.
But there are plenty of women's ride to choose from, so head to The Women's Ride website for more information! Sign up for a ride and have an awesome day!
